Mémoires présentées à l'Académie de Besançon en 1775 [i.e. 1766] sur la meilleure manière d'obtenir le salpêtre, 1775.

In 1766 (not 1775 as on spine of case) the Academy of Besançon sponsored a competition on the best method of manufacturing saltpeter. In 1775 French chemist Antoine Laurent Lavoisier urged that the Academy at Paris have a competition on a similar subject. Turgot asked the Besançon Academy to send a dossier of the best essays in the 1766 contest. This vol. is a copy of that dossier which Lavoisier had made for himself. The third item is a copy of letter from Lavoisier to the Besançon Academy, dated Nov. 28, 1775, giving his assessment of the essays.
